The show began with Ryback actually arriving into the arena in the back of an ambulance. After Ryback stepped out of the ambulance and then on top of it, he then went on to challenge WWE Champion John Cena in an Ambulance Match for the championship at the upcoming Payback Pay-Per-View event and the match has been made official. Also, after hearing all the rumors, it was confirmed that Paul Heyman had enlisted a new client named Curtis Axel, the man formerly known as Michael McGillicutty. As Heyman discusses Axel, he is then interrupted by WWE Chief Operating Officer Triple H. Triple H then tells Heyman that he has every intention of kicking his ass. Then, Axel gets in Triple H’s face, but ends up receiving a slap for his troubles. Triple H then says that he will face Axel in a match later on in the evening and added that after he kicks Axel’s ass, he’s going to kick Heyman’s. Also, Alberto Del Rio (accompanied by his personal ring announcer Ricardo Rodriguez), the new #1 contender to Dolph Ziggler’s World Heavyweight Championship, went one-on-one with NXT Champion Big E Langston (accompanied by AJ Lee). In the end, thanks to AJ tossing Del Rio’s bucket in the ring to distract the referee and Big E taking advantage by giving Del Rio a thumb to the eye, Big E was able to hit Del Rio with his signature maneuver “The Big Ending” to get the pin, the win, and the biggest win of his career thus far. Also, after one-half of Team Rhodes Scholars Cody Rhodes beat one-half of Team Cobro Zack Ryder, Ryback then comes out and decimates Ryder before carrying him off to the ambulance Ryback rode in earlier in the night. Ryback then tosses Ryder in the back of the ambulance before the ambulance rides away. This was clearly a message to John Cena. Also, Raw Managing Supervisor Vickie Guerrero announced that the WWE Universe would get to vote on the WWE App for Jack Swagger’s opponent for the evening. The choices were Randy Orton, The Great Khali, or R-Truth. Randy Orton got the most votes and ended up beating Swagger in Orton’s home state of Missouri. Finally, prior to the main event between Triple H and Curtis Axel (accompanied by Paul Heyman), doctors informed Triple H that he was not medically cleared to go after taking a shot to the face from a sledgehammer attack from Brock Lesnar the night before at the Extreme Rules Pay-Per-View event, but Triple H competed anyway. It proved to be costly because at one point in the match, Triple H was struggling to stay on his feet. The referee then deemed Triple H unable to continue, thus Curtis Axel got the victory to end the program. So, not only did Axel win his first-ever Raw main event, but he also got the biggest win of his career as well. In other notes, it was announced that tomorrow night on Main Event that Intercontinental Champion Wade Barrett will defend his championship against Sin Cara. It was also announced that this Friday on Smackdown, new United States Champion and leader of The Shield Dean Ambrose will have his first defense against the guy he beat to win the championship, Kofi Kingston.
