WWE Smackdown 5-3-13: The Shield Continues Its Crusade

I was in attendance for this week’s edition of Smackdown at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan. There was one match that took place before Smackdown went on the air; it was between Bo Dallas and Curt Hawkins with Dallas coming out on top. Also, WWE Tag Team Champion and one-half of Team Hell No went one-on-one with Ryback with Ryback coming out on top. Also, before his match with Fandango (accompanied by Summer Rae), Zack Ryder informed the WWE Universe in a WWE Active video that he no longer refers to himself as a broski or refers to things as “Sssiiiccckkk” because he feels that those two things just aren’t working for him anymore. As for the match, despite seeing a more-than-ever aggressive Ryder, it was still not enough to put away Fandango. Also, WWE Divas Champion Kaitlyn received another gift from her secret admirer. Then, The Great Khali attempted to educate her on the ways of love. As I said before, while I think it’s acceptable for her to be interested, she should also watch her back at the same time because you never know, it could all be a trap. Also, Ricardo Rodriguez (accompanied by Alberto Del Rio) went one-on-one with Zeb Colter (accompanied by Jack Swagger) with World Heavyweight Champion Dolph Ziggler, his girlfriend AJ Lee, & NXT Champion Big E Langston watching from ringside. At one point in the match, Swagger gets involved, causing the disqualification loss for Colter. Then, the Senior Advisor to the Smackdown General Manager (WWE Hall of Famer Booker T) Teddy Long came out and decided to make a tag team match between the team of Del Rio & Rodriguez against Swagger & Colter. Since Booker T was absent from Smackdown this week, Teddy Long filled in for him. With Ziggler, AJ, & Big E still looking on from ringside, at one point, Ziggler and Langston get involved causing the tag team match to end. Then, Teddy Long once again comes out and decides to make the match Del Rio & Rodriguez vs. Swagger & Colter vs. Ziggler & Big E (accompanied by AJ) in a Triple Threat Tag Team Match. In the end, it was Del Rio & Rodriguez who emerged victorious. Also, The Shield (Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, & Roman Reigns) took out Daniel Bryan backstage. After WWE personnel moved Bryan to the trainers’ room for medical attention, WWE Tag Team Champion and the other half of Team Hell No Kane came out of the trainers’ room and Matt Striker attempted to interview Kane to get an update on the condition of Bryan. Kane basically indicated that Bryan would be in no condition to be out at ringside during Kane’s match with Shield leader Dean Ambrose later in the night. Also, Randy Orton went one-on-one with one-half of Team Rhodes Scholars Damien Sandow with Orton coming out on top. After the match, Big Show came out and once again reminded Orton that he holds him responsible for his, Orton’s, and Sheamus O’Shaunnesy’s loss against The Shield at WrestleMania 29. Then, Sandow jumped Orton from behind and hit his signature maneuver on him. Big Show then went on to challenge Orton to a match at the upcoming Extreme Rules Pay-Per-View event. Will Orton accept the challenge? Knowing Orton, I think there’s no doubt that he’ll accept it. Also, current rivals Sheamus O’Shaunnesy and Mark Henry faced off with one another in a tug-of-war contest this past Monday on Raw. While both men were tugging, Sheamus actually drops the rope, causing Henry to fall back. Sheamus then follows it up by hitting Henry with his signature maneuver “The Brogue Kick”. On this edition of Smackdown, the two men faced off in an Arm-Wrestling Contest. After Henry came out on top, Sheamus then challenged Henry to another round, only this time with their left arms. Right when the second round gets underway, Sheamus actually punches Henry in the face and follows it up with a “Brogue Kick”, thus embarrassing Henry for the second time in one week. I truly believe that Sheamus is trying to get inside Henry’s head and I think it’s working. Also, in the first main event of the evening, Kane took on Dean Ambrose (accompanied by fellow Shield co-horts Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns). The Shield actually came out with Daniel Bryan’s WWE Tag Team Championship belt. In the end, thanks to a distraction by both Rollins and Reigns, Ambrose was able to capitalize and finish Kane off. After the match, The Shield hit Kane with their patented signature team maneuver “The Triple Powerbomb”. The Shield stood over Kane’s fallen body holding Team Hell No’s WWE Tag Team Championship belts high. Finally, after Smackdown went off the air, the second main event of the evening was a tag team match between the team of Randy Orton & Sheamus against the team of Big Show & Mark Henry with Orton & Sheamus coming out on top to end the show.
