The show began with an edition of Chris Jericho’s talk show The Highlight Reel. Jericho’s guest was Ryback and after things began to get heated between the two, the Senior Advisor to the Smackdown General Manager (WWE Hall of Famer Booker T) Teddy Long came out and announced that it would be Jericho vs. Ryback in the main event of the evening. Since Booker T didn’t appear to be on this edition of Smackdown, my guess is that Teddy Long was put in charge of the show for the evening. Also, NXT Champion Big E Langston (accompanied by World Heavyweight Champion Dolph Ziggler & AJ Lee) was supposed to go one-on-one with Jack Swagger (accompanied by Zeb Colter). However, Alberto Del Rio was ringside on commentary and before the match even officially started, Del Rio got up from the announcers’ table, went over to grab a ladder from underneath the ring, and then slid the ladder inside the ring. Chaos then ensued with everybody taking one another out with the ladder and in the end, it was Del Rio who stood tall atop the ladder holding the World Heavyweight Championship high. Could this be the scene that everybody sees come the upcoming Extreme Rules Pay-Per-View event when Ziggler defends against both Del Rio and Swagger in a Ladder Match? Speaking of Ziggler, it was revealed that he had suffered a concussion during the melee with the ladder. What condition will Ziggler be in come Extreme Rules? Also, earlier in the day before Smackdown, Mark Henry successfully pulled one 55,000-pound trailer. Later during Smackdown, Henry did the unthinkable by dragging two WWE tractor trailers that weighed in excess of 110,000 pounds, destroying the world record. They don’t call him The World’s Strongest Man for nothing. Also, it was announced that Randy Orton will go one-on-one with Big Show in a match named after the event, Extreme Rules. Finally, in the main event between Jericho and Ryback, it was Ryback who delivered a low-blow to Jericho using the ring post, thus earning Ryback the loss by disqualification. After the match, as soon as Jericho got back to his feet, Ryback came charging towards Jericho and clotheslined Jericho over the announcers’ table to end the program.
