TNA Slammiversary XI: New Champions, Kurt Angle Hall of Fame Bound, Bully Ray Retains World Championship

Slammiversary XI marked the 11th anniversary of TNA. New champions were crowned, the TNA Hall of Fame 2013 Inductee was revealed, and one champion retained his championship. In a 3-Way Ultimate X Match, Kenny King defended his X Division Championship against both Chris Sabin and Suicide. In the end, it was Sabin who climbed across the X-shaped ropes above the wrestling ring to grab the championship belt and become the new X Division Champion. Just like last year, the X Division Champion will get to trade in his championship in exchange for an opportunity at the TNA World Heavyweight Championship at the upcoming Pay-Per-View event, Destination X. Austin Aries was successful last year, can Sabin be just as successful? In a 6-Man Tag Team Match, the team of Samoa Joe, Brutus Magnus, and the returning Jeff Hardy defeated Aces & Eights members Ken Anderson, Garett Bischoff, & Wes Brisco. Also, in the Gut Check tournament final, Jay Bradley defeated Sam Shaw to earn a spot in the upcoming Bound For Glory Series, which will determine who will challenge for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship at TNA’s biggest show of the year, Bound For Glory IX this year. Also, Aces & Eights member Devon was scheduled to defend his TNA Television Championship against Joseph Park; however, before the match, Aces & Eights brutally attacked Park backstage. When it was time for the match, Park did not come out due to the attack. Devon then demanded the referee count him out. All of a sudden, Park’s brother Abyss came out and ended up replacing his brother. In the end, Abyss hit Devon with his signature maneuver “The Black Hole Slam” to get the pin and the win and tbecome the new TNA Television Champion. Also, last year, Sting became the first-ever TNA Hall of Famer in history; TNA President Dixie Carter came out and announced this year’s TNA Hall of Fame Inductee. The man who will be inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame 2013 during Bound For Glory Weekend is none other than Kurt Angle. Also, TNA World Tag Team Champions Chavo Guerrero, Jr. & Shawn Hernandez defended against the team of James Storm & Gunner, Bad Influence (Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian), and the team of Bobby Roode & Austin Aries in a Fatal 4-Way Elimination Tag Team Match. The first team to be eliminated was Bad Influence after they got disqualified, then it was the Tag Team Champions themselves that got eliminated next; therefore, new Tag Team Champions were guaranteed. In the end, it was Storm & Gunner who eliminated Roode & Aries to become the new TNA World Tag Team Champions. Also, Taryn Terrell defeated Gail Kim in a Last Knockout Standing Match after Gail was unable to make it back to her feet before the referee’s 10 count. Also, after being announced as this year’s TNA Hall of Fame Inductee, Kurt Angle defeated AJ Styles. Finally, it was The President of Aces & Eights Bully Ray who defended his TNA World Heavyweight Championship against TNA Hall of Famer Sting in a No Holds Barred Match. The added stipulation to this match was that if Sting did not win, he can never get another opportunity at the TNA World Heavyweight Championship for the rest of his career again. Unfortunately, thanks to some help from his fellow Aces & Eights cohorts, Bully Ray retained his championship; therefore, Sting can never get another opportunity at the championship for the rest of his career. Every match, for the most part, went the way I wanted it to go, with the exception of the Gut Check tournament final and the TNA World Heavyweight Championship Match. Man, if Chris Sabin ends up beating Bully Ray for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship at Destination X, Sabin will have not only won his first-ever World Championship, but will have also put an end to Aces & Eights’ unstoppable power. Hey, it could very well happen.
