ROH TV 4-20-13: ROH Challenges S.C.U.M.

The show began with former ROH World Champion and leader of S.C.U.M. Kevin Steen coming out to address his loss to Jay Briscoe at SuperCard of Honor VII. Before he could really start, fellow S.C.U.M. member Steve Corino comes out to confront Steen about not returning any of his calls, as well as his recent actions. Steen tells Corino that the reason he wanted to destroy ROH is because he wanted to put it out of its misery because of the way former ROH Match Maker Jim Cornette was running ROH. Steen said that since Cornette is now no longer with ROH, he feels the company is just fine now. Corino continued to remind Steen of S.C.U.M.’s mission to destroy ROH while other members of S.C.U.M. came out. Steen told Corino that he had only intended for it to be Corino, Jimmy Jacobs, and himself as S.C.U.M. to destroy ROH, rather than add more members of S.C.U.M. Steen then told Corino that since he had the utmost respect for him, he decided to go along with Corino’s plan of bringing more members in. Steen then went on to say that he was happy to work with Corino and Jacobs, but that he would not work with fellow S.C.U.M. member Matt Hardy. Corino then took exception to that remark and told Steen that he and himself don’t seem to be on the same page. Steen agreed with Corino and Corino then gave Steen the option of walking away from the ring or of S.C.U.M. taking him out. Steen chose to stay and fight, but in the end, S.C.U.M. left Steen lying in the ring. What this tells me is that Kevin Steen is no longer a member of S.C.U.M. and that Steve Corino has taken over as its leader. Also, during a match between Tadarius Thomas and Jorge Santi, members of S.C.U.M. come out and attack them, thus throwing the match out. Steve Corino then demands that a member of S.C.U.M. get an opportunity at the ROH World Championship. ROH Match Maker Nigel McGuinness then comes out with Jay Lethal and Michael Elgin. Nigel then told Corino that if two members of S.C.U.M. could defeat Lethal and Elgin in a tag team match at the upcoming iPPV event, Border Wars, then a member of S.C.U.M. would get an opportunity at the World Championship. Corino would agree to the stipulation on the condition that Corino gets to become the new color commentator alongside current color commentator Kevin Kelly, filling a vacancy left by Caleb Seltzer’s absence (who Corino took out to begin with), as well, if the two members of S.C.U.M. beat Lethal and Elgin at Border Wars. Nigel agreed, so the match and stipulations are now official for Border Wars. Finally, in the main event, ROH Television Champion Matt Taven (accompanied by Truth Martini & Scarlett Bordeaux) defended against ACH. Whichever competitor in this match walked away as champion would then go on to defend against Mark Briscoe at Border Wars. In the end, thanks to Scarlett distracting the ref and Truth interfering, Taven was able to get the victory and retain his championship. Therefore, it will be Taven defending against Mark Briscoe at Border Wars.
