WWE WrestleMania 29: Undertaker 21-0, Triple H the Wrestler Lives, Alberto Del Rio Retains, and John Cena Gets Redemption

WrestleMania 29 took place at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The first match of the night was during the WrestleMania Pre-Show when Intercontinental Champion Wade Barrett defended against The Miz. With his mother sitting front row at ringside, The Miz defeated Barrett to become the new champion. Therefore, Wade Barrett still has yet to get his first WrestleMania win. Also, Chris Jericho went one-on-one with Fandango. Fandango entered MetLife Stadium with a gaggle of gorgeous back-up dancers. While Jericho had his finishing submission hold, the Walls of Jericho, locked in, Fandango somehow managed to counter it into roll-up pin to get the 1-2-3 and pull off the upset, as well as get his first WrestleMania win. Also, Team Hell No (Kane & Daniel Bryan) defended their WWE Tag Team Championships against Mr. Money In the Bank Dolph Ziggler & Big E Langston with AJ Lee in their corner. Similar to what AJ gave Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania last year, AJ gave her beau Dolph a “good luck” kiss at the start of the match. Well, just like last year, the kiss turned out to be anything but good luck because just like Daniel lost last year, Ziggler & Langston lost this year, despite involvement from AJ. Therefore, Big E Langston loses his first-ever WrestleMania match and Daniel Bryan finally gets his first WrestleMania win. Also, the trio of Randy Orton, Sheamus, & Big Show took on The Shield (Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, & Roman Reigns) in a Six-Man Tag Team Match. This is the match where not only Orton, Sheamus, & Big Show lose, but after the match was over, Big Show turned on his teammates by giving them KO Punches as well, thus turning heel. Therefore, The Shield not only remains undefeated as a trio in WWE, but all three members also win their first-ever WrestleMania match. Also, Ryback went one-on-one with Mark Henry. After Ryback impressively lifted the 400-plus pound Henry up for an attempted Shell Shocked (Ryback’s finishing maneuver), Mark Henry grabbed on to the ring ropes and managed to collapse on top of Ryback with his 400-plus pound frame to get the pin and the win. After the match was over, Henry was looking to do more damage to Ryback; however, Ryback caught Henry and hit him with Shell Shocked. Therefore, Mark Henry wins the battle and Ryback wins the war. Regardless, Ryback loses his first-ever WrestleMania match. Mark Henry also admitted in a WWE.com exclusive video that he has gained an ounce of respect for Ryback, but at the same time, he is looking to go at it with Ryback some more. It sounds like the issues between these two powerhouses have not been settled yet. Also, in the World Heavyweight Championship main event, the champion Alberto Del Rio with his personal ring announcer, Ricardo Rodriguez, in his corner defended against Jack Swagger with Zeb Colter in his corner. After some back-and-forth action between the two, and some involvement from both Ricardo and Zeb, Del Rio forces Swagger to submit to his cross arm-breaker submission hold to retain his championship. Therefore, Del Rio gets his first WrestleMania win and Swagger’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania comes to an end. Based on a WWE.com exclusive video interview with Swagger and Colter, it sounds like they are still intent on creating “Jack Swagger’s America”. Also, in a main event No Holds Barred Match, WWE Chief Operating Officer Triple H with WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels in his corner took on Brock Lesnar with Paul Heyman in his corner and Triple H’s career as a wrestler was on the line. After some brutal action between the two, involvement from both Shawn Michaels and Paul Heyman, and Triple H withstanding Lesnar’s submission maneuver, the Kimura Lock (which broke Triple H’s arm twice last year in 2012), three times, Triple H finished off Lesnar with his finishing maneuver, the Pedigree, onto the steel steps and retained his career as a wrestler. Also, in another main event, The Undertaker went one-on-one with CM Punk with Paul Heyman in his corner. CM Punk entered MetLife Stadium with rock band Living Colour performing Punk’s theme music “Cult of Personality” live. After both men kicked out of each other’s finishing maneuvers and involvement from Paul Heyman, The Undertaker finished off Punk with his finisher, the Tombstone Piledriver, to extend his undefeated streak at WrestleMania to 21-0. Finally, in the WWE Championship main event, WWE Champion Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson defended against John Cena. After back-and-forth action between the two icons, John Cena hits The Rock with his finishing maneuver, the Attitude Adjustment, to defeat The Rock and become WWE Champion for the 11th time. Therefore, Cena has gotten redemption from his loss to The Rock from last year’s WrestleMania. After the match, both competitors showed class and shook hands and embraced one another. The one match that was not posted on WWE.com was the Eight-Person Mixed Tag Team Match between the team of Tons of Funk (Brodus Clay & Tensai) & The Funkadactyls (Naomi & Cameron Lynn) against the team of Team Rhodes Scholars (Damien Sandow & Cody Rhodes) and The Bella Twins (Nikki & Brie). I’m wondering if the match even ended up taking place or not. In other notable WrestleMania 29 features, the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2013 (Current Saturday Morning Slam General Manager Mick Foley, Current Smackdown General Manager Booker T, Trish Stratus, Bob Backlund, celebrity honoree Donald Trump, and Bruno Sammartino) were introduced to the WrestleMania crowd. Also, there was a live musical performance by Sean “Diddy” Combs ft. Skylar Grey. Also, WWE announced it’s founding partnership for the 2014 Special Olympics USA Games at WrestleMania 29. The announcement was made on stage at MetLife Stadium with New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, 2014 USA Games Chairman and CEO TJ Nelligan, President of Special Olympics North America Bob Gobrecht, President of Special Olympics New Jersey Marc Edenzon, WWE Executive Vice President of Creative Stephanie McMahon, and Special Olympics athletes Ashley Weber of New Jersey and David Dennin of Connecticut. Among other celebrities that took part in/were in attendance at WrestleMania 29 were members of the National Guard, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi and her fiancee Jionni LaValle, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, radio host Elvis Duran, Dule Hill, former New York Giants star Michael Strahan, Michelle Beadle of NBC, Judah Friedlander, and Opie & Anthony of The Opie & Anthony Radio Show. With WrestleMania 29 now in the books, we now look forward to WrestleMania 30, which will take place at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana on Sunday, April 6, 2014.
