John Cena’s Legacy Lives On
In Bray Wyatt’s first-ever WrestleMania match, whether it would be a win, loss, or draw, he set out to destroy Cena’s legacy. Towards the end of the match, Bray even tried to goad Cena into destroying his legacy by handing Cena a chair and daring him to hit him with it. Fortunately, Cena maintained his composure and used the chair on an interfering Erick Rowan. Cena then hit Bray with the Attitude Adjustment to get the pin and the win to keep his legacy alive. I just knew Cena was not the monster Bray claimed Cena to be.
The Unthinkable and Impossible Happens
Many have tried; all have failed, some even more than once. For over two decades, The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania has remained unbroken; that is, until now. Brock Lesnar stepped up to the challenge and even though it took three F-5s to get the job done, he still conquered The Streak. The Undertaker is now 21-1 at WrestleMania. Despite the loss, Undertaker still walked out of the Superdome with his chin up. Also, The Undertaker did end up suffering a concussion in that match, but was released from the hospital the following day, fortunately. Despite the fact that The Streak was broken, I am convinced that the record of 21-1 will never be broken by anybody. Now, the question is what does the future hold for The Undertaker?
AJ Lee Defies the Odds…But Under Controversial Circumstances
Smackdown General Manager Vickie Guerrero basically put WWE Divas Champion AJ in a can’t-win situation by making the first-ever Vickie Guerrero Divas Championship Invitational at WrestleMania 30. This match marked the first-ever WrestleMania match for a few of the divas that were in it, including AJ. This also marked the first-ever WWE Divas Championship Match in WrestleMania history. The rules of the match were that AJ had to defend her championship against 13 other divas and whichever diva got the first pinfall or submission would win the match and walk away as Divas Champion. Vickie Guerrero was ringside for this match. At first, I was rooting for Eva Marie to win; however, at one point during the match, she showed enough indications that she had turned heel. Therefore, my pick changed to Emma. Unfortunately, in the end, while AJ had Naomi locked in her Black Widow submission hold, AJ made it look like Naomi submitted when she forcefully tapped Naomi’s free hand to the mat, which was out of the referee’s view and apparently, out of Vickie’s, as well. Due to the fact that Naomi did not actually submit, I think she definitely deserves a one-on-one opportunity at the championship.
Daniel Bryan Overcomes The Authority and Wins the Big One
WWE World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton had to defend his championship against both Batista and Daniel Bryan. After the post-match attack that he suffered from Triple H earlier in the night, Bryan certainly did not come into this match at 100%. At one point during the match, while Bryan had the “Yes”-Lock on one of his opponents, out comes The Authority to pull the referee out of the ring. Then, The Authority invites former WWE referee Scott Armstrong, who has done The Authority’s bidding to screw over Bryan in the past, and appoints him as the special guest referee. Batista then takes advantage and hits the Batista Bomb on Bryan and pins him, but Bryan kicks out before the count of three. Afterwards, Bryan kicks Armstrong out of the ring and then does a suicide dive to the outside, taking out Armstrong and The Authority. Then, Triple H attempts to use a sledgehammer on Bryan, but Bryan stops him and ends up using the sledgehammer on Triple H instead. Armstrong and The Authority are then helped to the back by referees and officials, the original referee for this match gets back in the ring and the match continues. At one point during the match, Orton and Batista do a double-team maneuver (Perhaps unintentionally?) to Bryan driving him hard through the announcers’ table. This leads to paramedics coming out and putting Bryan on a stretcher. Just when it appears that Bryan is finished, he takes it upon himself to haul himself off the stretcher and back into the match. In the end, Bryan hits Batista with the Running Knee and forces him to submit to the “Yes”-Lock; thus, becoming the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion. As confetti falls and fireworks go off, Bryan invites his sister and her two daughters, who were seated front row in the audience, into the ring to celebrate with him and have the perfect ending to WrestleMania 30. I just knew that on this night that Daniel Bryan would not get screwed over and fall short again on this opportunity. I knew he could do it and he did. The only thing that could have made that moment better is if Bryan’s fiancé, Brie Bella, ended up standing in the ring by Bryan’s side as the new WWE Divas Champion.
Final Thoughts
I am definitely disappointed that The Undertaker’s undefeated WrestleMania streak came to an end, but otherwise, I thought this WrestleMania was pretty good. The WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2014 was introduced and there were a lot of legends that made appearances, including “The Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase, “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, Paul Orndorff, among others. I think that the WWE Universe got what they wanted most out of this WrestleMania; which was to see Daniel Bryan walk out as WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
It was a great Wrestlemania filled with excitement, some surprises and a lot of fun. Had a blast at the Wrestling Advisor party. Thanks for a good time!
