WWE Smackdown 3-8-13 Review

On this edition of Smackdown, Michael Cole informed the WWE Universe that he would be filling in on commentary for JBL (the normal commentary team being Josh Mathews and JBL) for the next few weeks due to JBL’s mountain climbing duties. The Assistant to the Raw Managing Supervisor Brad Maddox also unexpectedly joined the commentary team for the night. The two main events were World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio vs. Mr. Money In the Bank Dolph Ziggler in a non-title match and Sheamus vs. Big Show. Del Rio once again came out on top against Ziggler in the series of matches against one another. I don’t know if anybody else notices, but Dolph Ziggler has been on quite a bit of a losing streak as of late. In the other main event, The Shield interrupted the match by attacking Sheamus, thus getting Big Show disqualified. Randy Orton came out to even the odds a little more for Sheamus. Eventually, Big Show recovered from the Brogue Kick from Sheamus and cleared The Shield from the ring. However, Big Show then clocked Sheamus with a KO Punch followed by Orton RKOing Big Show to end the program. Another interesting thing that happened was the fact that Ryback and Mark Henry crossed paths for the second time in the same week. In the Backstage Fallout YouTube web show, Ryback told the entire world that he fears nobody and that the moniker “Feed Me More” applies to everybody, even Mark Henry. I truely believe that these two powerhouses will face each other at WrestleMania 29. Also, for the third time in a row, Fandango refused to compete because his name wasn’t pronounced to his satisfaction. Smackdown General Manager Booker T had his Senior Advisor Teddy Long go inform Fandango that the next time he has a match on Smackdown, that Booker expects him to compete. I am definetly getting sick and tired of Fandango’s antics. In other action, WWE Divas Champion Kaitlyn took on Tamina Snuka in a non-title match. Layla had requested to be in Kaitlyn’s corner for this match, which she allowed. At one point during the match, while Layla was checking on Kaitlyn after being thrown out of the ring, Tamina threw Layla into the barricade. Just as Kaitlyn was getting back into the ring, Layla was trying to get at Tamina for attacking her and it ended up giving Tamina the opening to finish off Kaitlyn. Later on in Backstage Fallout, Layla apologized for inadvertantly costing Kaitlyn the match, but it was unclear whether or not she accepted the apology.
