My thoughts on WWE Extreme Rules 2015

Kickoff Match

Neville def. Bad News Barrett

Bad News Barrett was originally scheduled to face Intercontinental Champion Daniel Bryan for the championship on Pay-Per-View, but due to the fact that Bryan was not medically cleared to compete, BNB faced Neville on the Extreme Rules Kickoff Show instead. This was an opportunity for Neville to shine on the big stage and he made the most of it by pulling off the upset and beating BNB. I think that this should definitely put Neville in line for an opportunity at the Intercontinental Championship.

Pay-Per-View Matches

“Kiss Me Arse” Match

Dolph Ziggler def. Sheamus

This is a match that I predicted would happen at Extreme Rules. In Sheamus’ native Irish terms, a “Kiss Me Arse” Match means a “Kiss My Ass” Match. This meant that whoever lost the match would have to kiss the winner’s backside. In the end, it was Ziggler who rolled up Sheamus to get the pin and the win. After minutes of hesitation, it appeared that Sheamus was going to man up and live up to the stipulation; however, he ended up hitting Ziggler with a low blow followed by a Brogue Kick knocking Ziggler out cold. Then, Sheamus proceeded to shove a knocked out Ziggler’s face into his bottom. Sheamus claims that he is one of the “real men” in WWE and yet he failed to prove it on this night.

WWE Tag Team Championship Match

The New Day (Kofi Kingston & Big E) (w/fellow New Day member Xavier Woods) def. Cesaro & Tyson Kidd (w/Natalya) to become the new champions

This match was originally supposed to take place on the Extreme Rules Kickoff Show, but ended up getting moved to Pay-Per-View. By all means, it should have been The Lucha Dragons (Kalisto & Sin Cara) competing in this match against the champions Cesaro & Kidd, but The New Day stole that opportunity away from them. I had no preference on who I wanted to win this match and walk out as champions because I am not a fan of either one of these teams. I decided to root against Cesaro & Kidd. In the end, thanks to a distraction by Xavier Woods and Kofi rolling up Cesaro and hooking his trunks for added leverage, The New Day got the pin and the win and walked out of Extreme Rules as the new WWE Tag Team Champions. I should also point out that all three members of The New Day are now the Tag Team Champions. This means that any two members of The New Day can defend the championship. This is just like trios such as The Fabulous Freebirds (Michael “P.S.” Hayes, Terry “Bam Bam” Gordy & Buddy “Jack” Roberts) and Demolition (Ax, Smash & Crush) did when they were Tag Team Champions.

Chicago Street Fight

Dean Ambrose def. Luke Harper

This is another match that I predicted would happen at Extreme Rules. In this match, there were no countouts and no disqualifications. Ambrose and Harper took full advantage of this by fighting all the way to the backstage area. Once they were back there, both men ended up abducting a vehicle and leaving the arena. The match continued even as the next match was going on. After arriving back at the arena, both men got back to the ring and in the end; it was Ambrose who scored the victory. This happens very rarely, a match that continues even when the next match(s) is going on.

United States Championship Russian Chain Match

John Cena (c) def. Rusev (w/Lana)

In a rematch from WrestleMania 31, John Cena defended his championship against Rusev in a Russian Chain Match. The rules of this match are that both men were strapped on each end of the chain and the only way to win was by hitting all four corners of the ring in succession. At one point during the match, the crowd started chanting for Lana. This lead to Lana jumping up onto the ring apron to wave. Rusev was not pleased about this, so he sent Lana to the back. In the end, it was Cena who persevered and walked out still the United States Champion. Ever since the weeks leading up to WrestleMania 31, there seems to have been some issues developing between Rusev and Lana. I wonder where all of this will lead this long-time alliance?

WWE Divas Championship Match

Nikki Bella (c) (w/her twin sister Brie) def. Naomi

Nikki was originally supposed to defend against Paige, but was brutally attacked by Naomi and doctors have said that Paige will be out of action indefinitely. Naomi ended up taking Paige’s spot and got a crack at the championship. At one point during the match, Nikki was knocked out of the ring. While Brie was checking on her sister, Naomi gave Brie an unprovoked kick to the back of her head. In the end, while the referee was dealing with Nikki, Brie retaliated and gave a kick of her own to Naomi’s face. This lead to Nikki hitting the Rack Attack on Naomi and getting the victory to retain her championship. Due to the fact that Naomi struck Brie first for no reason at all, Brie did not screw Naomi, Naomi screwed Naomi.

Last Man Standing Match

Roman Reigns def. Big Show

Here is another match that I predicted would happen at Extreme Rules. The rules of this match are that the match ends when one competitor is off his feet and unable to get back up before the referee’s count of ten. Both men threw everything that they had at each other, but still got back up. In the end, it was Roman Reigns who flipped the announcers’ table over onto Big Show, which left Big Show buried and unable to answer to the ten count, giving Reigns the victory.

Ryback ended Bo Dallas’ in-ring address

Bo Dallas came out to run down the Chicago crowd. Ryback had heard enough and came out to dispose of Dallas. It is almost like Dallas is begging for more and more beatings from everybody because that is what happens every time whenever he tries to give his “motivational speeches”.

WWE World Heavyweight Championship Steel Cage Match

Seth Rollins (c) def. Randy Orton

In the weeks leading up to this match, both men got to choose stipulations. Rollins chose to ban Orton’s finishing maneuver, the RKO, from the match and Orton chose for the match to be contested inside a steel cage. WWE Director of Operations Kane was appointed as the Special Guest “Gatekeeper” for the match by WWE Chief Operating Officer and fellow Authority member Triple H. This meant that Kane guarded the door to the steel cage. If any one of the competitors used the RKO during the match, then the match would automatically end and the competitor’s opponent would get the win and walk out as champion. Recently, there have been issues developing between fellow Authority members Rollins and Kane. At one point during the match, Kane and J & J Security, who are also members of The Authority, made their presence felt. In the end, after attacking both Orton and Rollins, Kane was hit with an RKO by Orton. Immediately following that, Rollins hit Orton with an RKO and slithered out the cage door to get the victory and retain his championship. The way I look at it, due to the fact that Kane was not one of the competitors in the match, that RKO by Orton meant nothing; but in Rollins’ case, he should have automatically lost the championship because he made it clear that the RKO was banned from the match. So, there was definitely a lot of controversy coming out of this match.
