Where There’s Wrestling, There’s Backstabbers

On this week’s edition of WWE Countdown on the WWE Network, the top ten back stabbings in history were counted down. My prediction for number one was either the infamous “Montreal Screw Job” that took place at Survivor Series 1997 between Mr. McMahon, Shawn Michaels, and Bret Hart or when Shawn Michaels super kicked his Rockers tag team partner Marty Jannetty and threw him through a plate-glass window. Well, I was right on the money because the “Montreal Screw Job” was listed at number two and Shawn Michaels’ attack on Marty Jannetty was listed at number one. While I thought the ones that made the list were good ones, there are also some good ones that I think could have made the list. For instance, I think the night that Stone Cold Steve Austin aligned himself with Mr. McMahon at WrestleMania 17 was a good one. Another good one is when Christian turned his back on Edge back in 2001. One thing about that betrayal is the fact that while Christian had every intention of skyrocketing his career and plummeting Edge’s, it ultimately backfired because from that point on, Edge was on his way to becoming a very successful singles competitor. One other good one is when Lita turned her back on her then-husband Kane and aligned herself with Edge, making them one of the most devious and despised power couples in history. I guess what Stone Cold Steve Austin said time and time again throughout his career is sometimes true, “DTA (Don’t Trust Anyone)”.
