Superstars That WCW Could Have Done More With

WWE vs. WCW

World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and World Championship Wrestling (WCW) are two of the biggest and most successful companies in all of wrestling history. Both companies have made many superstars into household names, main eventers, icons and legends. Throughout most of the ‘90s and early ‘00s, both companies went head-to-head with each other. During this time, there were many of the two companies’ respective superstars who had jumped ship in between the two companies at one time or another. Eventually, WWE came out on top and put WCW out of business for good. Shortly after, many of WCW’s superstars ended up wrestling for WWE and some still remain a part of the company today. While WCW had managed to turn superstars like Sting, Ric Flair, Lex Luger, Booker T, Diamond Dallas Page, Goldberg, Scott Steiner, Ricky Steamboat, Vader, Ron Simmons, Jeff Jarrett and The Giant (who would later become known as Big Show in WWE) into household names, main eventers, icons and legends, there are many superstars that WCW could have done the exact same thing with, but WWE ends up doing it instead. Below is the list of superstars that WCW blew it with.

WWE Money In the Bank 7-14-13: Two Brand New Mr. Money In the Banks Crowned

Money In the Bank Kickoff

During the Money In the Bank Kickoff (Pre-Show), WWE Tag Team Champions and Shield members Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns defended their championships against #1 contenders and Reigns’ second cousins The Usos (Jimmy & Jey). The Usos came within inches of becoming the new champions, but in the end, it was Reigns who hit Jimmy with his signature maneuver “The Spear” to get the pin and the win for his team and retain their championships. I sure hope The Usos aren’t done with The Shield because Jimmy & Jey are way overdue for a WWE Tag Team Championship reign.

It’s Not Cryback, It’s Ryback

Chris Jericho went one-on-one with Ryback. During the weeks leading up to their match, Jericho played mind games with Ryback by referring to him as “Cryback”; unfortunately, it was not enough to over come the powerhouse when Ryback rolled up Jericho to get the pin and the win.

Kaitlyn’s Injury May Have Cost Her

In a WWE Divas Championship rematch between BFFs-turned-bitter enemies, Champion AJ Lee (accompanied by Big E Langston) and Challenger Kaitlyn (accompanied by Layla El), Kaitlyn came into the match wearing a sleeve over her injured left …

WWE Raw 7-1-13: The Two World Champions Collide

Every Money In the Bank Competitor, Except One, States His Case

With the WWE Championship Contract Money In the Bank Briefcase hanging above the ring and a ladder inside the ring, Daniel Bryan came out to state his case on why he would win the WWE Championship Contract Money In the Bank Ladder Match at the upcoming WWE event, Money In the Bank. Then, all the rest of the competitors for this match came out, which consists of Sheamus O’Shaunessy, Randy Orton, Kane, Christian, and CM Punk. The only one who was conspicuous by his absence was Rob Van Dam. After all the rest of the men stated their cases, chaos followed when Orton struck Kane with his signature maneuver “The RKO”.

Kane Gets Some Unwanted Assistance

Backstage, Daniel Bryan informed his former Team Hell No tag team partner Kane that Raw Managing Supervisor Vickie Guerrero made a match between Kane and Randy Orton with Daniel Bryan as the special guest referee. I am a fan of both Kane and Orton and was not sure who to root for in this one. As for the match, at one point, Orton kind of shoved Bryan, leading to Bryan disqualifying Orton …

WWE Raw 6-17-13: Daniel Bryan Finally Proves to the Entire World (or Rather Himself) That He Is Not the “Weak Link”

 Double Disqualification = Rematch

The show began with a rematch between Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan. I am a fan of both of these men and I was not sure who to root for in this one. At one point, both men ended up outside the ring and got so aggressive with one another to the point where they both ended up getting disqualified. This led to Bryan, who has been obsessed with not being called the “weak link” for quite some time now, going to Raw Managing Supervisor Vickie Guerrero and demanding a rematch for later in the evening, which Vickie eventually agreed to.

AJ Lee Strikes Again

During a match between Kaitlyn (accompanied by Layla El) and Aksana, Kaitlyn’s theme music hit and out comes WWE Divas Champion AJ Lee dressed as her. Aksana tried to take advantage of the distraction, but Kaitlyn was able to hit her with her signature maneuver “The Spear” to get the pin and the win. After the match, AJ Lee had her friend Big E Langston come out and they then proceeded to mock Kaitlyn by re-enacting the hoax that AJ pulled on Kaitlyn a few weeks ago. Layla ended up having …

WWE Smackdown 6-21-13: Daniel Bryan Wins, But Is Not Happy

The show began with Daniel Bryan addressing his match being stopped on Raw a few nights ago due to suffering an injury that didn’t allow him to continue. Bryan has been obsessed with proving to everybody that he is not the “weak link”. After Randy Orton came out to tell Bryan that when helped him to his feet after their match on Raw and embraced him, that he respects Bryan for his guts and determination. Instead, Bryan took that sportsmanship as pity and was determined to prove himself in their rematch later on in the evening. Also, Wade Barrett got his Intercontinental Championship rematch after losing the championship to Curtis Axel at Payback the previous Sunday. It was a Triple Threat Match that also featured The Miz; Axel won the championship in controversial fashion when Miz had Wade Barrett locked in his signature submission hold “The Figure Four Leg-Lock” and Axel picked up the scraps by pinning Barrett to win the championship, so I felt that he needed to prove himself as Intercontinental Champion. During the rematch against Barrett, Axel did just that by hitting Barrett with his signature maneuver and pinning him for the 1-2-3 to retain his championship. …

WWE Payback 6-16-13: John Cena Survives Hell

In a match during the Payback Kickoff (Pre-Show), Sheamus O’Shaunessy defeated one-half of Team Rhodes Scholars Damien Sandow. As for the matches for the Pay-Per-View portion of Payback, WWE Divas Champion Kaitlyn had retribution on her mind heading into her defense against former BFF AJ Lee; unfortunately, it was not to be because in the end, it was AJ who forced Kaitlyn to submit to her signature submission hold “The Black Widow” to become the WWE Divas Champion for the first time. After the heart-wrenching loss, Kaitlyn was consoled by fellow former WWE Divas Champions Layla El, Natalya Neidhart, and Alicia Fox, thus turning Alicia face. Also, United States Champion and Shield leader Dean Ambrose defended against Kane. In the end, when Kane attempted to hit Ambrose with his signature maneuver “The Chokeslam” through the announcers’ table outside the ring, it was Ambrose who countered by hitting Kane with a DDT and getting back in the ring to beat the referee’s ten count, thus beating Kane and retaining his championship via count-out. Also, Intercontinental Champion Wade Barrett was originally scheduled to defend against both The Miz and Fandango in a Triple Threat Match; however, Fandango had suffered an injury during …

WWE Raw 6-10-13: Triple H and Mr. McMahon At Odds, Stephanie McMahon Caught In the Middle

The show began with WWE Chief Operating Officer Triple H going against his father-in-law, WWE Chairman, and CEO Vincent K. McMahon’s and Triple H’s wife Stephanie McMahon’s wishes by going one-on-one with Curtis Axel (accompanied by Paul Heyman). At one point, while Triple H had the match well in hand, Vince McMahon comes out and orders the timekeeper to ring the bell to end the match, then he tells ring announcer Justin Roberts to announce Curtis Axel as the winner as a result of a disqualification. Then, Triple H gives the order to restart the match. Afterward, Mr. McMahon gives the order to declare Curtis Axel the winner as a result of a forfeit. Then, Triple H gives the order to restart the match and declares it a 60-minute Iron Man Match. Lastly, Mr. McMahon comes out to declare Curtis Axel the winner once and for all by absconding the ring bell and microphone used by Justin Roberts, so that Triple H can’t restart the match again. Later on, Triple H speaks with his wife backstage and tells her that her father crossed the line. While Stephanie agreed with her husband, she begged him not to hurt his father-in-law. While …

WWE Raw 6-3-13: The McMahon Family Can’t Agree On Anything

The show began with WWE Executive Vice President of Creative Stephanie McMahon coming out to inform the WWE Universe that despite the fact that her husband and WWE Chief Operating Officer Triple H has been medically cleared to compete, she has made an executive decision to not allow her husband to have his match for the evening against Curtis Axel, much to the dismay of the WWE Universe. Stephanie’s father and WWE Chairman and CEO Vincent K. McMahon came out to back her daughter up on her decision. Later on, when Triple H arrived at the arena, he confronted his wife and father-in-law and made it clear that he was going to have his scheduled match with Curtis Axel, but Stephanie and Mr. McMahon would still not approve. At one point, things started to get a little intense between Triple H and Mr. McMahon when Vince warned Triple H not to do something he might regret. Eventually, Triple H chose to leave the arena so that “his children wouldn’t have to see him beat their grandfather’s ass on national TV”. Before Triple H left in his limousine, he told Stephanie to tell her father that he will be in the …

WWE Raw 5-27-13: Bret Hart Appreciation Night

This Memorial Day edition of Raw was dedicated to all the men and women serving in the U.S. Military. The show began with WWE Champion John Cena coming out to address Ryback’s challenge to an Ambulance Match at the upcoming Payback Pay-Per-View event. Cena announced that at Payback, he will defend his championship against Ryback in a Three Stages of Hell Match. A Three Stages of Hell Match consists of a 2-out-of-3 Falls Match with with each fall having a stipulation. Cena said that the first fall’s stipulation will be a Lumberjack Match, the second fall a Tables Match, and, if necessary, the third fall will be the very stipulation Ryback challenged Cena to, an Ambulance Match. Ryback then came out and accepted the challenge. So, it’s official, at Payback, Cena will defend his championship against Ryback in a Three Stages of Hell Match. After Ryback accepted, Paul Heyman and his newest client, Curtis Axel, came out and issued a challenge to Cena for a non-title one-on-one match for the main event of the evening, which Cena accepted. Also, the WWE Universe were given the opportunity to vote on the WWE App on which role The Miz would play in …

WWE Raw 5-13-13: Triple H Is Ready for Extreme Rules

The show began with a dance-off between Chris Jericho and his dance partner, professional ballroom dancer and ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” ballroom dancer Edyta Sliwinska and Fandango and his his dance partner, Summer Rae. There was ballroom dancing hard-wood floor inside the wrestling ring for the dance-off. Fandango and Summer were up first and during their dance, it appeared that Summer had twisted her ankle. Both Edyta and Jericho showed concern; while doing so, Fandango took advantage and jumped Jericho from behind and brutally attacked him, even using a piece of the hard-wood floor to hit Jericho in the face with. Afterwards, it was revealed that Summer was not hurt at all and leaped to her feet; therefore, it was a trap all along and the dance-off ended in a no contest. Personally, I think it was ridiculous that Edyta was invited to WWE Raw for a dance-off to not dance at all. It was also revealed that Jericho and Fandango will be going one-on-one at this Sunday’s Extreme Rules Pay-Per-View event. Every match at Extreme Rules is supposed to be contested under extreme rules; I think the extreme rules stipulation for this match should be having the ballroom …

WWE Raw 5-13-13: Triple H and Brock Lesnar Come Face-To-Face

Tonight on Raw, WWE Chief Operating Officer Triple H and Brock Lesnar will meet face-to-face inside the ring less than a week before their match at the upcoming Extreme Rules Pay-Per-View event. Also, Chris Jericho will face Fandango in a Dance-Off; Jericho has chosen professional ballroom dancer Edyta Sliwinska from ABC’s hit show Dancing with the Stars as his dance partner, while Fandango will have Summer Rae as his. Also, will WWE Divas Champion Kaitlyn’s secret admirer finally reveal himself? Finally, what is the condition of World Heavyweight Champion Dolph Ziggler after suffering a concussion this past Friday on Smackdown? Tune into Raw tonight to find out.…

WWE Smackdown 5-10-13: Chris Jericho Wins, But Ryback Still Rules

The show began with an edition of Chris Jericho’s talk show The Highlight Reel. Jericho’s guest was Ryback and after things began to get heated between the two, the Senior Advisor to the Smackdown General Manager (WWE Hall of Famer Booker T) Teddy Long came out and announced that it would be Jericho vs. Ryback in the main event of the evening. Since Booker T didn’t appear to be on this edition of Smackdown, my guess is that Teddy Long was put in charge of the show for the evening. Also, NXT Champion Big E Langston (accompanied by World Heavyweight Champion Dolph Ziggler & AJ Lee) was supposed to go one-on-one with Jack Swagger (accompanied by Zeb Colter). However, Alberto Del Rio was ringside on commentary and before the match even officially started, Del Rio got up from the announcers’ table, went over to grab a ladder from underneath the ring, and then slid the ladder inside the ring. Chaos then ensued with everybody taking one another out with the ladder and in the end, it was Del Rio who stood tall atop the ladder holding the World Heavyweight Championship high. Could this be the scene that everybody sees come …

Chris Jericho and Triple H Conquer the Fifth Annual Revolver Golden Gods Awards

WWE Superstar Chris Jericho hosted the Fifth Annual Revolver Golden Gods Awards. Fellow WWE Superstar and WWE Chief Operating Officer Triple H won the award for “Most Metal Athlete”. I think it’s definitely safe to say that the WWE ruled the Revolver Golden Gods Awards this year.…

WWE NXT 5-1-13: Chris Jericho Schools Bray Wyatt

The show began with a Triple Threat Elimination Tag Team Match between the team of Bo Dallas and NXT Tag Team Champion Adrian Neville, The Colons (Primo & Epico), and Wyatt Family members Luke Harper & Erick Rowan. The Colons were the first team to be eliminated, then, shortly after, The Wyatt Family eliminates Dallas and Neville to get the victory. Also, after weeks of pent-up frustration boiling over, Paige finally went one-on-one with Summer Rae with Paige getting the victory and some much deserved retribution. Also, NXT Commissioner and WWE Hall of Famer Dusty Rhodes revealed while he realizes that NXT Tag Team Champion Oliver Grey is currently out with an injury, the NXT Tag Team Championship needs to be defended. Instead of forcing Neville & Grey to relinquish the championships, Dusty has allowed Neville to choose a tag team partner to fill in for Neville until Grey returns. The partner that Neville has chosen is Bo Dallas. Next week on NXT, they will defend the championships against Wyatt Family members Harper & Rowan. Finally, in the main event, Chris Jericho went one-on-one with Bray Wyatt (accompanied by fellow Wyatt Family cohorts Harper & Rowan). The stipulation of this …

WWE NXT 4-24-13: All Champions Retain

The theme for this edition of NXT was “Clash of Champions”. There were four championships on the line. The first match was for the United States Championship. It was announced on the bottom of the NXT screen that this match was taped several weeks ago, meaning that Antonio Cesaro was the champion at the time it was taped, but since then, Kofi Kingston had beaten Cesaro for the championship on Raw. Therefore, we already knew Cesaro was going to retain. As for the match, Cesaro defended against NXT Tag Team Champion Adrian Neville. After back-and-forth action between the two, it was Cesaro who hit Neville with his signature maneuver, the Neutralizer, to get the pin and the win to retain his championship. The next championship match was for the WWE Divas Championship with Kaitlyn defending against former BFF AJ Lee. In the end, Kaitlyn hit AJ with her signature maneuver, the Spear, to get the victory and retain. While AJ may have come up short in this bout, she did win a Divas Battle Royal on Raw this past Monday to earn an opportunity at the Divas Championship, so she will be getting another opportunity at the championship in the …
