Main Event and Smackdown Return to Van Andel Arena

Van Andel Arena

Last week Tuesday, my dad and I were in attendance for the WWE Main Event (which airs Wednesdays at 8/7 PM CT on Ion Television) and Smackdown (which airs Fridays at 8/7 PM CT on Syfy) tapings at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I am posting this now because I do not believe in putting spoilers in my posts. We were seated not very far away from ringside, so we had a pretty close view of the event.

Main Event

During the Main Event taping, a match between Naomi (accompanied by Cameron Lynn) and NXT standout Emma took place that didn’t end up being televised, with Naomi coming out the victor. Also, at the very beginning of a divas tag team match between The Bella Twins (Nikki & Brie) and the team of Alicia Fox & Aksana, something awesome happened. I started a “Total Divas” chant for The Bellas and Nikki heard me because she pointed right at me. The Bellas were victorious in that match.

Smackdown

As for Smackdown, at one point during the show, Emma was in the audience during two matches, at least. This was the second week in a row that …

WWE Raw 7-1-13: The Two World Champions Collide

Every Money In the Bank Competitor, Except One, States His Case

With the WWE Championship Contract Money In the Bank Briefcase hanging above the ring and a ladder inside the ring, Daniel Bryan came out to state his case on why he would win the WWE Championship Contract Money In the Bank Ladder Match at the upcoming WWE event, Money In the Bank. Then, all the rest of the competitors for this match came out, which consists of Sheamus O’Shaunessy, Randy Orton, Kane, Christian, and CM Punk. The only one who was conspicuous by his absence was Rob Van Dam. After all the rest of the men stated their cases, chaos followed when Orton struck Kane with his signature maneuver “The RKO”.

Kane Gets Some Unwanted Assistance

Backstage, Daniel Bryan informed his former Team Hell No tag team partner Kane that Raw Managing Supervisor Vickie Guerrero made a match between Kane and Randy Orton with Daniel Bryan as the special guest referee. I am a fan of both Kane and Orton and was not sure who to root for in this one. As for the match, at one point, Orton kind of shoved Bryan, leading to Bryan disqualifying Orton …

WWE Raw 6-17-13: Changes In the Air

I was in attendance for this edition of Raw that took place at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The show began with the new World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio (accompanied by his personal ring announcer Ricardo Rodriguez). Del Rio addressed his actions from the previous night at the Payback Pay-Per-View event and was met with a chorus of boos from the WWE Universe. After all of this, Del Rio then stated that for the last few months, he has fought for the WWE Universe and all they did was disrespect him. After making this statement, it was clear that both Del Rio and Rodriguez had turned heel. They are then interrupted by CM Punk (accompanied by Paul Heyman); Punk then made it clear that he did not appreciate Del Rio’s posturing. Then, despite protests from Heyman, Punk went on to challenge Del Rio to a non-title match for later on in the show. Raw Managing Supervisor Vickie Guerrero (accompanied by her assistant Brad Maddox) came out and announced that the match would happen in the night’s main event. Also, after losing the Intercontinental Championship to Curtis Axel the night before at Payback, Barrett was scheduled to have …

WWE Payback 6-16-13: John Cena Survives Hell

In a match during the Payback Kickoff (Pre-Show), Sheamus O’Shaunessy defeated one-half of Team Rhodes Scholars Damien Sandow. As for the matches for the Pay-Per-View portion of Payback, WWE Divas Champion Kaitlyn had retribution on her mind heading into her defense against former BFF AJ Lee; unfortunately, it was not to be because in the end, it was AJ who forced Kaitlyn to submit to her signature submission hold “The Black Widow” to become the WWE Divas Champion for the first time. After the heart-wrenching loss, Kaitlyn was consoled by fellow former WWE Divas Champions Layla El, Natalya Neidhart, and Alicia Fox, thus turning Alicia face. Also, United States Champion and Shield leader Dean Ambrose defended against Kane. In the end, when Kane attempted to hit Ambrose with his signature maneuver “The Chokeslam” through the announcers’ table outside the ring, it was Ambrose who countered by hitting Kane with a DDT and getting back in the ring to beat the referee’s ten count, thus beating Kane and retaining his championship via count-out. Also, Intercontinental Champion Wade Barrett was originally scheduled to defend against both The Miz and Fandango in a Triple Threat Match; however, Fandango had suffered an injury during …

WWE NXT 6-12-13: New NXT Champion

On this edition of NXT, the first round of the tournament to determine the first-ever NXT Women’s Champion continued when Bayley went one-on-one with Alicia Fox. I would like to point out that I am convinced that Bayley has turned face because of how she was acting all shy and nice around everybody both prior to and during the match. Unfortunately for Bayley, Alicia Fox came out victorious, thus advancing in the tournament. The first match for the second round of the tournament is now set; it will be Alicia Fox taking on Paige, who also won a first-round match two weeks ago on NXT. There are now two more first-round matches left, which continues next week on NXT. Also, in the main event, NXT Champion Big E Langston defended against #1 contender Bo Dallas. In the end, after accidentally pulling off the padding and exposing the steel turnbuckle, Dallas rammed Big E’s head into it and then hit him with his signature maneuver to get the pin and win to become the new NXT Champion. I would also like to point out that Dallas had also ended Big E’s undefeated streak on NXT.…

WWE Saturday Morning Slam 5-11-13: Saturday Morning Slam Invades the U.K.

This edition of Saturday Morning Slam took place from the United Kingdom in England. Alicia Fox joined Josh Mathews on commentary for this edition. In a match set up by the General Manager of Saturday Morning Slam and WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley, Santino Marella went one-on-one with 3MB member Jinder Mahal, with the other two members of 3MB (Heath Slater & Drew McIntyre) banned from ringside. In the end, it was Santino who hit Jinder with his signature maneuver “The Cobra Strike” to gain victory. Also, in a huge main event, the team of Randy Orton & Sheamus O’Shaunessy took on The Prime Time Players (Titus O’Neil & Darren Young). During the match, Alicia pointed out something interesting; Titus O’Neil paints his nails. I don’t know if this is fact or if this is Alicia starting up another one of her gossips. Either way, it was quite interesting. As for the match, it was Orton & Sheamus who emerged victorious to end the program.…

WWE Hangout 5-2-13: Alicia Fox Stops By

There is this new WWE On YouTube Show called Hangout. It is hosted by WWE Hall of Famer Howard Finkel, the show has WWE Superstars as weekly guests, and members of the WWE Universe can actually be panelists for the program to interact visually with Howard Finkel and the guest of the week, as well as submit questions via Twitter. Unfortunately, I missed the first episode last week where Tyson Kidd was the guest, but I did catch this week’s edition where Alicia Fox was the guest. Hangout airs on WWE On YouTube live every Wednesday at 4pm. If you miss it, you might be able to catch it the following day.…

WWE Main Event 3-20-13: Tag Team Action Highlights the Show

The show began with Intercontinental Champion Wade Barrett going one-on-one with R-Truth in a non-title match. After Barrett beat R-Truth, he got into a confrontation with commentator The Miz. The Miz ended up running Barrett off. It’s pretty clear that things aren’t settled between these two. Also, Josh Mathews interviewed Sheamus about the possibility of Big Show being his and Randy Orton’s tag team partner against The Shield at WrestleMania 29. Sheamus said that he was not going to speak for Randy Orton and I think he basically indicated that he’s not too sure about having Big Show as his partner. Personally, while I definitely think Big Show has all the tools in the world to stop The Shield, I just don’t think he is a trustworthy guy. Therefore, I think Orton and Sheamus need to choose a guy who is trustworthy. In the first tag team match of the night, it was Natalya teaming up with Layla to take the team of Alicia Fox & Aksana. Right before the match started, Alicia Fox got on the mic and took shots at Natalya’s boyfriend, The Great Khali. Natalya made Alicia Fox eat her words by forcing her to tap out …

WWE NXT 3-6-13 Review

The show started with NXT Creative Director, General Manager, Commissioner, and WWE Hall of Famer Dusty Rhodes announcing a triple-threat match between Bo Dallas, Corey Graves, and Conor O’Brian to determine the #1 contender to Big E Langston’s NXT Championship. To assure that The Shield would not get involved, Dusty had security all around the arena to prevent them from getting in. The first match was scheduled to be a non-title tag team match between NXT Tag Team Champions Adrian Neville and Oliver Gery against Judas Devlin & Scott Dawson. However, Oliver Grey was nowhere to be found, but Adrian Neville agreed to face his two opponents in a handicap match. Towards the end of the match, Oliver Grey was dragged out from backstage by The Wyatt Family, who apparently was responsible for Oliver’s absence. Regardless, Adrian still managed to get the victory by himself. Later in the show, there was a six-diva tag team match between the team of Sasha Banks and The Funkadactyls taking on the team of Alicia Fox, Aksana, and Audrey Marie, thus turning Alicia Fox heel (bad guy) in the process. Sasha and The Funkadactyls picked up the victory. Finally, in the main event triple-threat …

Kiss My Foot Matches Between the Women

The Rule of a Kiss My Foot Match is that the loser of the match must kiss the winner’s feet. Throughout wrestling history, WWE has had two Kiss My Foot Matches that featured the men, but have never had any between the women. However, there was one Kiss My Foot Match between the women that took place at WWE’s Developmental Territory in late 2007, but it was kind of only one-sided because only one of the women in the match had the opportunity of getting her feet kissed by her opponent. When the men have Kiss My Foot Matches, it’s a pretty disturbing sight, but if the women had them, the sight would be much better. Bottom line, I think there should be more Kiss My Foot Matches between the women in any wrestling company.…
